This page contains information on acquiring a set of IRIX install media.
There's two common ways to install IRIX from scratch:
- Network Installing
- Installation over CD
Both methods have their benefits and drawbacks. We will first discuss purchasing IRIX:
Used official IRIX discs are sometimes available from eBay and other auction sites, as well as on IRIX Network's Marketplace.
Purchasing real IRIX discs is only recommended for those seeking them as a collection item, as full sets of 6.5.22 and 6.5.30 discs often sell for hundreds of dollars. While pre-6.5.22 releases may be available for less, they are unsupported by most free software distributions and will likely still cost more than many are willing to pay for them.
With purchased CDs, one can perform a network install or a CD install.
IRIX Network maintains a freely-accessible mirror of images of IRIX releases for network installs. For disc images, it's recommended to do web searches on archive.org, WinWorld and other locations.
This has its own page here (to be filled in later)
IRIX disc images are NOT ISO images. They are EFS disklabel images, and as such it requires a software that can burn disc at once. These include:
- Alcohol 120%
